Why can’t both kinds of repetition be avoided?
In round two, a new team of four must come from four different old teams to avoid repeating teammates. Its opponents cannot come from those old teams’ four opposing teams, or someone faces an old opposing player again. Only two old teams remain to supply four opposing players — so at least two would repeat as teammates. This contradiction applies even before role restrictions.
You can allow repeated opposing players and still avoid every repeated teammate pair. This tool shows that relaxed condition in its results and exports.
